As we begin another exciting school year, we want to remind our school community about an important upcoming date: Tuesday, September 8.
On this day, Charles City CSD voters will participate in a special school election regarding Measure HU, a ballot initiative to renew the district’s voter-approved Physical Plant and Equipment Levy (PPEL).
The PPEL is a primary funding tool utilized by over 83% of public school districts across Iowa to maintain infrastructure, technology, and equipment. In Charles City, local community support for the PPEL dates back to at least 2000.

School district elections directly influence the learning environment our children receive. We encourage all parents, guardians, and eligible community members to inform themselves about Measure HU and participate in the vote on Tuesday, September 8.
Polling Locations Voters will go to their normal polling locations for this election, except for 45 CCCSD voters who have been moved from Marble Rock to the Floyd County Fairgrounds.

Charles City Community School District will be dismissing 2 hours early on Friday, Sept. 4, due to the heat. Preschool will be dismissed at 11:45 a.m.
We plan to proceed with the High School football game at 7:30 p.m., as the forecast indicates the real feel temperature will be within the acceptable range.
A special election will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 8, regarding the renewal of the Charles City Community School District’s Physical Plant & Equipment Levy (PPEL).
The current levy expires in 2030. Voter approval of this measure would extend the existing levy through 2040. Renewal of the levy in this election will allow funding to continue at the same level for the next 14 years. Because this measure is a renewal of an existing levy, passing it will not increase property tax rates.
By state law, PPEL funds are restricted to specific infrastructure and hardware expenditures. Eligible uses include school bus maintenance and replacement, building security upgrades, and general facility upkeep.
Past PPEL projects for the Charles City Community School District include school security door readers to keep building entrances secure, school bus and vehicle repair and replacement, replaced sewer lines at the High School, fire alarm replacement, and numerous others that allow the district to offer safe and positive learning environments.

School registration for the 2026-27 school year is almost here! Online registration opens Saturday, Aug. 1.
Washington and Lincoln Elementary Parent/teacher/student conferences will be held Thursday, Aug. 20, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. The link to sign up for a conference time will be available on the school website beginning Monday, Aug. 3.

Thursday, Aug. 20, will also be school picture day for Washington and Lincoln Elementary students. Please bring your child dressed and ready for pictures before or after your conference. Please do not have your child wear green.
Charles City Middle School and High School Open Houses will also be held Thursday, Aug. 20.
Middle School: 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. High School: 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

If your student will need school bus transportation to and from school for the 2026-27 school year, please contact the Charles City Community School District Operations Office at 641-257-6590 by Monday, Aug. 3 to arrange bus service.
Please note that even if your student rode the bus last school year, families must contact the Operations Office again to confirm transportation needs. This helps us maintain accurate records and ensures bus routes are planned correctly.
As the 2026-27 school year quickly approaches, we want to make families aware that the Charles City Community School District will no longer have early dismissals on Wednesdays. All school buildings will follow their regular daily schedules Monday through Friday.
Lincoln and Washington Elementary will start at 8:10 a.m. and dismiss at 3:10 p.m. The Charles City Middle and High Schools will start at 8 a.m. and dismiss at 3 p.m.
